V 110 Fialar (Lost)

Category:

Description

Fialar completed one of the finest and least known voyages from England to Australia, mostly sailed single-handed by her owner Mike Elton.  On reaching the Caribbean he took out the engine and completed the voyage without it, preferring the storage space and improved performance of the boat instead.  After arriving in Australia in 1985, Mike took up a marine apprenticeship and went on to teach marine subjects in Newcastle, NSW.  Mike passed on Fialar many years ago and he himself died last year.
